While I’m not an expert, I’m fairly sure this is a spring azure butterfly — part of the blues family of butterflies. I’m also pretty sure the flowers it’s on are groundsel — New Mexico groundsel, to be precise. I took the photo in Arizona, right over the border from New Mexico, in the Chiricahuas,

I got a chance to hike in Chiricahua National Monument (southeastern Arizona) last week. It was practically a fairy tale land, with gazillions of hoodoos in all sorts of fantastical shapes — I really enjoyed being there.
