I’ve long known and appreciated thimbleberry leaves — they’re big and look a little like maple or sycamore leaves, have clear veins, and change colors beautifully in the fall — but I’ve never seen the actual berries before. I looked them up after I stumbled across them in the Sangre de Cristos a couple of weeks ago and learned these were definitely not quite ripe. Still, I’ve often wondered whether there were actually berries to go along with the leaves’ wonderful name — the answer is a resounding yes!
