I found this little guy hanging onto a blade of grass for dear life. It may have been that he was on his way out, or perhaps it was simply that the summer was on its way out (it was quite chilly that morning).

Someone I ran into last summer in the Sandias, or more accurately, someone I would have run into if it hadn’t warned me it was there by rattling.
A Red Admiral butterfly, who paused for a moment amongst a few fallen leaves in the bosque today.
A billy goat whom I met last week in Arroyo Seco, NM. (He wanted my food.)
Usually they’re way high up in trees in the Rio Grande Bosque. The other day, though, I came around a corner and saw this one low in a small tree. As soon as we made eye contact, it bumbled down off the tree and onto the ground. It was pretty dark and there was a fair amount of debris on the ground but I somehow got the shot anyway. I’m pretty sure it didn’t like me very much.
I was delighted to have the opportunity to see (and photograph) this bright red cardinal in southeastern Arizona a couple of weeks ago. Wishing you and yours a happy and safe holiday season.
